THE
YOWM HA KIPPUR
(DAY OF ATONEMENT)
October 2007
Dear Chaciyd (Saints),
After the overwhelming upheaval events at the end of this present age, comes the fifth step in YAHUAH'S machashabah (plan and purpose) where 'Adam (Man) is giving a genuine opportunity to become one with YAHUAH. Satan is bound and put into the bottomless pit so that he should deceive the nations no more, giving us also a chance to shama (hear) a clear and pure word from YAHUAH. This is clearly pictured by the qadash chag (holy feast) that YAHUAH instructed our ancient ancestors Yashar'YAH (Israel) to shamar (keep) the Yowm ha Kippur (Day of Atonement). "And YAHUAH spake unto Mosheh (Moses), saying, Also on the tenth yowm (day) of this seventh month [there shall be] a yowm ha kippur (day of atonement): it shall be an qadash miqra' (holy assembly; calling together; convocation) unto you; and ye shall 'anah (afflict; humble; bowed down) your nephesh (souls), and offer an offering made by fire unto YAHUAH. And ye shall 'asah lo' mla'kah (do- no- work) in that same yowm (day): for it [is] a yowm ha kippur (day of atonement), to make an kaphar (cover, purge, reconciliation, atonement) for you before YAHUAH your YAHUAH." Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 23: 26-28. This yowm can also be called a Day of Propitiation or a "sin-covering day." It is a day we make atonement for sin by abstaining completely from the lust and appetite of the flesh, even fasting from food and drink. This yowm is to be a chuqqah (statute) forever to the people of YAHUAH throughout their generations in all their dwellings. We can even find in Scripture Sha'ul obviously keeping the Yowm ha Kippur (Day of Atonement) in the middle of the sea while on a Roman prison ship in Acts 27:9- years after some say it had been "nailed to the cross."
In the cepher (book) of Wayyiqra (Leviticus) chapter sixteen the scripture gives a very clear and real meaning of atonement. We find in scripture a ritual where two goats were to be presented before 'Aharown (Aaron) the kohen (priest) and 'Aharown was to "nathan goral " (cast lots) to find what each of these goats represented; one goral (lot, pebbles) was for YAHUAH and the other goral (lot, pebbles) was for the 'aza'zel (scapegoat) which was the goat used for sacrifice to represent the sins of the people (Wayyiqra [Leviticus]16:8).
The goat representing YAHUAH was to be the sin offering and be put to death just as YAHUSHA was a sin offering for us and gave His life (Wayyiqra [Leviticus]16:9). But in regards to the " 'aza'zel (scapegoat) on which the other goral (lot) fall, was to be presented alive before YAHUAH, to make an atonement with him, and to be let go for a scapegoat into the wilderness" (16:10). YAHUAH commanded that "Aharown (Aaron) should lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of our ancient ancestors Yashar'YAH (Israel) and all their transgression in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall shalach (send him away) by the hand of a fit (suitable) man into the wilderness: and the goat shall bear upon itself all their iniquities unto a uninhabited land; and he shall release (let go) the goat in the wilderness" (vs. 21-22). Not only was 'Aharown commanded to change his garments and wash his flesh in the qadash maqom (holy place), but the man that led the 'aza'zel (scapegoat) and released him in the wilderness was commanded to wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water before coming back into the camp (vs. 23-26).
In these scriptures not only do we see the covering , the purging, and the atoning for our sins; but we see sin being taken completely out of the way - as the live goat with all of our iniquities, all of our transgressions, and all of our sins are shalach (send away) far away from the camp into a land not inhabited and released him in the wilderness because once the people are purged they should have no more conscience of sins, which will bring about the saying, "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more" (Hebrews 8:12).
When was this ceremony and day of fasting to take place? Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 16:29-30, "And [this] shall be a chuqqah (statute) for ever unto you: [that] in the seventh month, on the tenth [day] of the month, ye shall'anah (afflict, humble, bowed down) your souls, and do no work at all, [whether it be] one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you: For on that day shall the kohen (priest) make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, [that] ye may be clean from all your sins before YAHUAH. It [shall be] a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall 'anah (afflict, humble, bowed down) your souls, by a chuqqah (statute, ordinance) for ever." Our ancient ancestors Yashar'YAH (Israel) understood that a day of afflicting their souls by abstaining completely from the lust and appetite of the flesh, even in fasting from food and drink was to be part of the observance of the Yowm ha Kippur (Day of Atonement).
Even though this qadash chag (holy feast) is a time of 'anah (affliction) of our nephesh (souls), bringing our flesh and will under the subjection of the Qadash Ruwach (Holy Spirit); yet this is the fifth step in the machashabah (plan and purpose) of YAHUAH, and pictures for us when Satan, who has deceived us and has caused us to sin, shall be shalach (send away) for a thousand years and cast into the bottomless pit, shut up and sealed up that he should deceive the nations no more until the thousand years are finished. But after that he must be loosed for a little season (Revelations 20: 1-3). With Satan bound, man can become one with YAHUAH, and can shama (hear) a pure word from YAHUAH- No More Satanic influence.
Now let us look at the latter part of verse 27 of Wayyiqra (Leviticus) chapter 23. YAHUAH instructed our ancestors saying," . . . and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto YAHUAH." We have already discussed afflicting our souls, now let examine offer an offering made by fire unto YAHUAH from the Scripture. Our ancient ancestors Yashar'YAH (Israel) did offer offerings literally made by fire unto YAHUAH, but YAH did not take pleasure in those sacrifices nor did YAH seek for those burnt offerings and sin offerings. In the cepher (book of Tehillim (Psalms) 40:6-8, the Scripture reveals to us that it is us doing YAHUAH'S WILL that He takes pleasure in and seeks for. vs.6 "Sacrifice and offering thou didst not chaphets (delight in, take pleasure in, desire); mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not sha'al (to ask for, to seek, inquire, required). vs. 7 Then said I, Hen (Lo, Behold) I come: in the volume of the cepher (book) it is to do thy will, O my YAHUAH: yea, thy towrah (law, direction, instruction) is within my me'ah (inward parts) heart." [Also read Ibrim (Hebrews) 10:5-7]. YAHUAH wants us to come to the place where we delight in, take pleasure in doing things His way.
Finally, let us look at the challenge that YAHUAH gave to our ancient ancestors, Yashar'YAH (Israel), concerning the day of their fasting, their qadash (holy) day and their sabbath. YeshaYAHU (Isaiah) 58 from The Scriptures Bible translation: vs. 3 "They say, 'Why have we fasted, and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our beings, and You took no note?' "Look, in the day of your fasting you find pleasure, and drive on all your labourers. vs. 4 "Look, you fast for strife and contention, and to strike with the fist of wrongness. You do not fast as you do this day, to make your voice heard on high. vs. 5 "Is it a fast that I have chosen, a day for a man to afflict his being? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, and to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Do you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to YAHUAH? vs. 6 "Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loosen the tight cords of wrongness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to exempt the oppressed, and to break off every yoke? Then, YAHUAH goes on to say vs. 13 "If you do turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My set-apart day, and shall call the Sabbath 'a delight,' the set-apart day of YAHUAH 'esteemed,' and shall esteem it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words, vs. 14 then you shall delight yourself in YAHUAH. And I shall cause you to ride on the heights of the earth, and feed you with the inheritance of Ya'aqob your father. For the mouth of YAHUAH has spoken!" Halal YAHUAH!!! When we do things YAHUAH'S WAY- We get YAHUAH'S RESULTS. Then, making an atonement for sins will be complete.
